- TROUBLESHOOTING: PROBLEMS WITH HARDWARE
-
- General Video and Sound Problems
-
- If you are experiencing crashes to the desktop or lockups, check to
- make sure all of your drivers are up to date and DirectX certified.
- DirectX is the interface that Windows 95 uses to run games. In order
- to play a game on a system you need to have DirectX compliant drivers
- for your audio and video cards.
-
- If a driver is CERTIFIED, that driver has been tested and verified
- to work with the DirectX interface. If a driver shows NO HARDWARE
- SUPPORT, that driver is not a DirectX compliant driver. In this case,
- DirectX will deal with the device the best it can, but it is
- unpredictable as to whether or not the device will be stable. It is
- common in this situation for a game to work for a few times, and then
- quit working for no apparent reason. If a driver shows NO HARDWARE
- SUPPORT, the best course of action is to contact either the
- manufacturer of the computer or the device (audio or video) in regard
- to obtaining the latest driver.
-
- Some drivers may have a blank space in the certification column, this
- means that the driver has been detected as a DirectX driver, but it was
- not tested and certified at the time that this particular version of
- DirectX was released. This is common on newer systems and systems that
- have newer drivers than what shipped with that particular version of
- DirectX. A blank space is often a good thing, but you cannot verify
- whether or not the driver is stable.
-
- If your drivers are not certified by DirectX you may contact the
- manufacturer of your computer for DirectX compatible drivers.
-
- Direct 3D Problems
-
- Currently only the 3Dfx and NVIDIA chipsets are fully supported. Please
- be sure to download the current drivers from the vendor homepages.
-
- Although this game uses 3D acceleration for enhanced graphics and
- gameplay, there are some 3D cards which are not supported by Andretti
- Racing. (Some cards support all of the independent hardware features
- which Andretti Racing takes advantage of, but not all of the features at
- the same time.) Cards which do not support these features simultaneously
- will not enable the "Hardware Acceleration" portion in the Graphic
- Options menu. If you experience corrupted graphics with the Hardware
- Acceleration enabled, first try disabling the Lens Flare and Fog
- effects. If you experience crashes to the desktop or corrupted gauges or
- game text when starting a race (not in the front end menus), then try
- turning off the Hardware Acceleration in the Options Menu before running
- the race.
-
- If you experience a white screen while racing, this may be due to the
- lens flare feature (some cards do not fully support alpha blending; a
- feature necessary for the lens flare feature). Try turning it off by
- pressing F4 in the race or by turning it OFF in the Options Menu.
-
-
- Audio Problems
-
- Most audio problems we encountered resulted from uncertified DirectX
- drivers. Please contact your computer or sound card manufacturer for
- updated drivers for your sound card.
-
- Joysticks/Controllers
-
- If you experience problems with your joystick, make sure that you
- calibrate it in Windows first, and then again inside the game in the
- Controller Setup menu.
-
- Disk Compression Utilities
-
- Disk compression of any kind may result in substantially increased load
- times. We cannot guarantee the compatibility of Andretti Racing with
- disk compression utilities.
-
- Screen/Power Saving Utilities
-
- These types of utilities may interfere with your systems' performance,
- please disable them before playing Andretti Racing.
